OMBUDSMAN INTERACTS WITH THE INDEPENDENT COMMISSION FOR PEACE AND NATIONAL COHESION

The Ombudsman, Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq. has continued his sensitization and partnership drive to Ministries, Department and Agencies. He met with the Executive Secretary of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion at their office at Lamina Sankoh Street.The Ombudsman, Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq. has continued his sensitization and partnership drive to Ministries, Department and Agencies. The Ombudsman briefed the commission on his mandate and functions. He stated that the office was created by the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone. He reiterated that some of the causes of the war where injustices and maladministration which were embedded in the Civil and Public Service.

He revealed that his Office is mandated to receive complaints from members of the Public who have suffered injustice as a result of maladministration. He revealed that according to the Ombudsman’s Act, the method used in resolving complaints are negotiations, mediation and other methods that are fair, efficient and effective.

Executive Secretary of ICPMC and Ombudsman

Appreciating the Ombudsman and Team, the Executive Secretary ICPNC, Hawa Samai, thanked the Ombudsman and Team for the presentation. She stated that it is the President’s desire for Institutions to collaborate for the collective good of all. She revealed that the ICPNC was created to foster peace and national cohesion among individuals and the country as a whole.

She opined that there will be no conversation about peace when there is no justice. She maintained that one of her Institutions mandate is to ensure that justice prevail in all sectors of the country. She notes that they have referred some complaints to the Ombudsman’s office which were professionally handled and pledged her Commission’s continued working relationship with the Ombudsman’s Office.
