OMBUDSMAN PAYS COURTESY CALL ON THE GENERAL MANAGER OF THE SIERRA LEONE HOUSING CORPORATION

In a bid to build a collaborative partnership and create awareness on the mandate and functions of the Office of the Ombudsman, the Ombudsman Tejan Ahmed Israel Jah Esq paid a courtesy visit to the General Manager and Management Team of the Sierra Leone Housing Corporation at their Offices at Siaka Stevens Street.

The Ombudsman explained the creation of the Office, his mandate and functions with reference Section 145 (2) and the Section 7(1) and (2) of the Ombudsman's Act. He stated that his Office was created based on the recommendations of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. He revealed that the services offered by the Ombudsman's Office are free of charge.

He said that his mandate aligns with one of the President's manifesto promises to revamp the Civil/Public Service architecture, which is Pillar 5 of the Mid-Term National Development Plan and Goal 16 of the SDGs.

Responding, the General Manager Ing. Charles Musa said that SALHOC was established in 1983 to create a wider ownership and also to give access to affordable housing which is a basic human rights. He noted that there is a housing gap for people in Sierra Leone, but that the government is trying to create housing investment environment for private investors. He thanked the Ombudsman and Team for the visit and pledged his Institution's continued working relationship with his Office.
